Montessori Stamp Game – Dynamic Subtraction Lesson Activity

ACTIVITY: The Stamp Game – dynamic subtraction
MATERIALS: Box of stamps.

A set of 2cm squared stamps: Green stamps marked 1, blue stamps marked 10, red stamps marked 100, green stamps marked 1000.


Prepared addition sum cards

Green, red and blue pencils or markers

A table mat.

OBJECTIVES: To give the child further practise in recording his answers.

To give the child an understanding of the process of subtraction.

To help the child to memorise his addition tables since the process is opposite to subtraction.

To show the child how to exchange the stamps when there are more than 9 of one hierarchy.

CONTROL OF ERROR: The answer on the back of the sum card.
AGE: 5 – 5 ½ years approx.
